Work at Familia Feliz
On the first day at Familia Feliz, we got an idea of how Sierra worked and lived. And she showed us some things that could be improved. So, over the two weeks, we stayed here, Rick did some shopping and fixing to improve Sierra’s ability to help the children.
The privacy of the clinic was upgraded by hanging a curtain over the window to the adjacent room. A much higher mosquito net was installed over the patient bed to allow nurses to engage with the patient more easily.
The screen over the clinic window to the main house was scrubbed clean.
A clinic fan was added to improve comfort. Document holders were provided to separate items like X-Rays and medical records. A table was provided so the medicine chest could be raised off the floor for easier access.
Finally, we decided to paint the clinic. Sierra had already started scraping the old paint in preparation. Rick finished that work and did a final cleaning, then Sierra, with some more help from Rick, painted the clinic a beautiful light blue.
Sierra’s kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom needed some upgrades, too, so Rick did some plumbing fixes, added fans for the upper bunk beds, did window screen replacement, and added knobs to the stove burner controls. Rick was also able to join Sierra in her massive supplies coordinator workload – distributing the weekly shopping load of food and toiletries.
And yet we were able to join Sierra in her meal prep, her playing with the students, and her church decorating for an event!
