Cozumel Escapades with the Schafer Family
Our trip to Cozumel marked one of the smoothest journeys we had embarked on. A brief (but super-hot) stroll from our Airbnb led us to the ferry boarding area, from which we enjoyed a scenic and relaxing ferry ride.
An exciting prospect awaited us as we anticipated spending time with the Schafer family, although we later discovered that Donnie wouldn’t be able to join us, sadly. Despite this, our time with the rest of the family turned out to be truly delightful.
Upon our arrival at the Airbnb, we were thrilled to find that it matched its advertised description – a picturesque abode.
We were greeted with full-width windows looking out onto the Carribean.
This gave us beautiful sunset views.
And the place was huge – the spaciousness provided the perfect setting for all six of us to unwind.
At our lodging we had access to two expansive swimming pools, one of them an infinity pool, along with a smaller, more intimate pool, all overlooking the Caribbean Sea. A lot of hours were enjoyed right there. I think Sharon swam every morning in these pools. Who knew she is half fish?
A dock, located just a stone’s throw away, served as the starting point for jumping, diving and easy snorkeling.
The refreshing and crystal-clear water allowed us glimpses of colorful tiny fish and sea urchins.
Lily, in particular, enjoyed the tranquil outdoor ambiance, losing herself in the pages of her book while stealing occasional glances at the captivating scenery.
When the gentle breezes were no longer able to keep her cool, she jumped back in the pool.
Of course, we had to eat ice-cream almost every day… Grandpa Roman would agree!
A vibrant square, a mere couple of blocks away from our location, became a frequent visit for us. Its lively atmosphere, filled with enticing aromas with festive events intrigued us. We had to try out some unique foods.
When we were not eating street food we enjoyed walking to a restaurant and enjoying the city walk & the balmy evenings. Yes, we did eat in also.
Cooking Class
The Schafer family enthusiastically participated in a cooking class, enjoying the preparation and relishing the delectable dishes to be created. Although Rick and I didn’t accompany them, we enjoyed hearing all about it.
Chocolate Factory Tour
Our visit to the local chocolate factory started with sweltering heat, since Rick and I walked there, but that made us appreciate the coolness inside all the more.
The factory’s lively and colorful ambience exuded charm and creativity.
We were anticipating the taste of yummy chocolate, and we were not disappointed!
We were treated to an insightful hands-on demonstration showcasing the intricate process of crafting Mexican chocolate.
In the chocolate-making process, no one raises any complaints about these kitchen tasks
Our taste buds were tantalized with an array of delectable treats, each step of the chocolate-making process unveiling new and delightful flavors.
roast, crush, mix & roll the cacao bean
Additionally, we had the opportunity to create our own chocolate round bars, serving as delightful mementos that would later prove to be irresistible treats.
The fruit of our hard work
We discovered that the art of making chocolate from the cacao tree is an ancient practice that remains largely unchanged from its origins, albeit with the integration of modern equipment.
We were able to drink some hot chocolate in the cutest little cups.

Snorkel Ocean boat Adventure
Among the most exhilarating highlights of our trip was an unforgettable snorkeling experience.
We took a boat ride out to a choice location on the world’s second largest reef.
We embarked on this adventure on a radiant, sun-kissed day, with the Caribbean in stunning shades of blue.
The wind took pleasure in tousling our hair, resisting all our efforts to contain its playful effect.
Our underwater journey was cool sightings of stingrays, a great variety of shapes and colors of corals, and a myriad of brilliantly hued reef fish. Unfortunately, we were unable to capture them all on film.
Hannah raced alongside the fish, though it seemed they were the ones coming out ahead.
The gear fit well, the water was the perfect temperature, and all had a great time viewing the wildlife.
Marta found contentment in floating above, observing all the bustling activity down below.
Samuel and Rick both swam through the coral cave.
Rick poking his head up to see where everyone went.
This day of exploration will remain etched in our memories as a truly remarkable chapter of our Cozumel escapade.
Our time with the Schaefer family in Cozumel went by quickly. We had an unforgettable time, and we look forward to the possibility of sharing more adventures together in other exotic corners of the world. Here’s to the cherished memories we’ve made and to the exciting escapades that await us in the future!
