Sabbath at Jardin Botanico

Sabbath in Santa Cruz de la Sierra was a sweet day at a municipal park with lots of sun and lots of rain. Jardin Botanico primarily focuses on the conservation and study of flora, there are also several species of fauna -mammals, reptiles, and birds that visitors can spot in the park. We were fortunate enough to actually see a few of these. The grounds were pretty in a “jungle” kind of way. It isn’t like some of the other well-groomed gardens we have visited in the past like the Butchart Gardens” in Victoria Canada. So it was interesting to see this “wild” type.

There were many places we could walk around. Some of the roads were paved, and others were dirt paths that were surrounded by thick vegetation. It had been raining some recently, and that made lots of puddles to try to circumvent. We had heard that the further back you would go, you may be able to see some sloths. So we headed down there to see if we could find one. What we did find was lots of mosquitos! However, we did come prepared as we did read up on this place beforehand.

The animals we did see were some caiman, turtles, colorful butterflies, hummingbirds, tegu, ants, and some evidence of ducks and geese. All in all, it was a sweet sabbath day.
